In December 2009 I realised that with 50 fast approaching - and looking at my ever increasing waist-line - I had to start to change my lifestyle and wanted to start to get fit again as well as lose some weight. My first step was somewhat drastic and I totally cut out alcohol. I am pleased to say that at the time of writing this some 10 months later I am still not drinking and feel so much better as a result.
My next step was to find a personal trainer - I am a member of the Harbour Club and was introduced to David Jones. I explained what was needed and we embarked on a training program. We started with two sessions a week, concentrating on getting my fitness levels up and also my core strength. It wasn't too long before I was seeing results, feeling fitter and getting a better body shape.
David is also a former Welsh national team swimmer and we decided to also take the personal training to the pool. I am not a bad swimmer but was amazed what I could still learn. At first, we focused on my technique and it wasn't long before we started training in the same way all top swimmers train. I now swim once a week with David and again my
fitness levels have improved. I can now easily swim a full mile frontcrawl and when on holiday I enjoy long sea swims for the fun of it. I think this part of David's training has changed my life more than anything else.
The other thing I would say is that he puts a lot of thought into your programme - it's not repetitive and never the same boring old routine. This makes you go back for more and dare I say I even look forward to seeing him. I would have no hesitation in recommending him as a personal trainer.

It's been 5 years since I trained up to ride a stage of the Tour de France and that was a struggle due to an uncompromising work life. Things have definitely slipped since then, and this time, well, I'm aiming for 8 days of off-road mayhem instead of one day on the road, so figured I'd better get serious.
David has helped by introducing the concept of core fitness. He's structured my training, kept it varied and motivated me to get to it and go for my goals. I started training with David three months after giving birth, and was exceptionally happy with how quickly he helped me to regain my pre-pregnancy shape.
My particular concern was to regain muscle tone in my stomach, bottom and thighs, and I have achieved this relatively painlessly with two sessions a week. I now continue to train with him to maintain my shape and improve fitness levels.
I find David to be extremely knowledgeable and motivational and I really enjoy our sessions, which he makes fun and varied, yet challenging. And he always seems to have an entertaining story to tell as well!
